Indonesian Cyber Agency Placed Under Presidential Control

The Indonesian Cyber and Intelligence Agency (BSSN) has been placed under direct presidential control, an order this effect was issued by the office of President Joko Widodo on December 16, 2017.

According to Presidential Regulation No. 133 of 2017 on BSSN, the agency directly comes under the president. Earlier, the agency was under the coordinating minister for political, legal, and security affairs.

"This is a very important agency, and in future, it is necessary, especially to take precautionary measures in the face of rapid developments in the cyber world," President Jokowi was quoted as saying by Antara News on Tuesday.

The BSSN is responsible for detecting and preventing cybercrimes and maintaining cybersecurity in effective and efficient ways by utilizing, developing, and consolidating all components related to cybersecurity.

The presidential regulation was signed by President Joko Widodo on December 16, 2017.
