IRKUT CORPORATION DECLARED THE BEST DEFENSE ENTERPRISE

JSC Scientific-production corporation Irkut was recognized as the best enterprise of Russian defense industry. Oleg Demchenko, Irkut President, was presented with the Company of 2008 national prize in the nomination Engineering – Defense on December 2, 2008 in Moscow. According to Elena Fedorova, head of PR department, Irkut Corporation is the leading enterprise of Russia’s aerospace industry. Corporation’s order book amounts to 4.6 bln USD. Irkut key product is the Su-30MKI family of fighters accounting for over 15% of Russia’s defense export. Irkut also produces the amphibious Be-200ChS aircraft and masters series production of the Yak-130 new-generation trainer jets. Within the industrial cooperation program Irkut supplies components for Airbus airliners and prepares to convert passenger А320 into freighters. Irkut Corporation became the first Russian aircraft manufacturer to have its quality management system certified as per the EN 9100 international standard by an independent certification bureau. Corporation’s current priority is the development of the МС-21 mainline jet to replace the obsolete Tu-154. Irkut Corporation is the head executor of this program. August-September 2008 witnessed the МС-21 development program successfully achieving Gate 2 by approving the aircraft pilot project and production mastering plans. Efficient and comfortable МС-21 airliners are to hit Russian and international airways in 2015-2016.
