India Tests BrahMos Cruise Missile

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight tested the supersonic cruise missile, BrahMos, for the first time from Indian-made seeker, in Pokhran test range, Rajasthan on Thursday morning.

The missile took off successfully and hit the designated target meeting all mission parameters. All telemetry and tracking stations including naval ships near terminal point have tracked the trajectory.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took to Twitter and congratulated DRDO for the successful fight test while stating how it will be a further boost for the country's security.

"Formidable Supersonic Cruise Missile BrahMos was successfully flight tested at 8.42 AM today at Pokhran test range, Rajasthan. The precision strike weapon with Indian-made seeker flew in its designated trajectory and hit the target with pinpoint accuracy," she said in her tweet.

The supersonic cruise missile was last test-fired in November 2017 from the Indian Air Force's fighter, Sukhoi-30MKI, demonstrating IAF's defence capabilities and was termed as a "major achievement".

The BrahMos is a medium range ramjet supersonic cruise missile. It can be launched from the land, air and the sea.
