Raytheon Wins $77M US Navy Contract for Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile Block II Requirements

The US Navy has awarded a $77 million worth contract to Raytheon to support Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) program, Block 2 multi-year production requirements, the Department of defense announced Friday.

Raytheon is contracted to provide “the engineering, test equipment, material and management necessary to transition Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) Block 2 engineering, manufacturing and development into low-rate manufacturing, fabricating and production of ESSM Block 2 missiles,” the statement says.

The ESSM program is an international cooperative effort to design, develop, test and procure ESSM missiles. An upgraded version of the Sea Sparrow anti-ship missile defense system, the ESSM provides enhanced ship self-defense.  

Work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona; Hengelo OV, Netherlands; Ottobrunn, Germany; Richmond, Australia; Loveland, Colorado; North Reading, Massachusetts; San Jose, California; Raufoss, Norway; Tomago, Australia; and various locations below one percent, and is expected to be completed by December 2020, the release says.

The release added that fiscal 2018 research, development, test and evaluation (Navy); and fiscal 2018 other procurement (Navy) funding in the amount of $61,546,391 will be obligated at time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
