Russian Navy anticipates the delivery of Admiral Gorshkov, its latest high tech ship, a day before the Naval Parade in St. Petersburg, President of Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexei Rakhmanov was quoted as saying by TASS on Wednesday.

The Project 22350 lead frigate is undergoing the coating of the hull and the superstructure for the naval parade, Rakhmanov said.

St. Andrew’s flag would be hoisted aboard the Admiral Gorshkov on July 28 on the eve of Navy Day celebrated on the last Sunday of July.

The Project 22350 frigate Admiral Gorshkov was delivered in early 2006 and set sails in 2010. The Russian Navy anticipates to receive six frigates of this type by 2025.

The Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was earlier quoted as saying,” warships like the Admiral Gorshkov will become the mainstay of the Russian Navy in the imminent future.”

As a successor of the Krivak class, Project 22350 is able to execute long-range strikes, conducts anti-submarine warfare and carry out escort missions unlike its Soviet-era predecessors.
