The Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) will begin receiving this year the domestically-built 'Karrar' (Striker) main battle tank which was unveiled in 2017.

Deputy Defense Minister Reza Mozaffari-Nia was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency Wednesday that Iran manufactures 50 to 60 tanks every year and that the Karrar will be within that production schedule.

The 'Karrar' tank features amphibious mobility, electro-optical fire control system, laser-aided distance measurement, and the capability to strike either mobile or fixed targets in day and night, according to Reza Mozaffari-Nia.

Iran claims that the 'Karrar 'tank is comparable to the latest generation tanks in the world and is of a locally developed design.

However, Western sources dispute this stating that the profile of the tank matches that of the T-72 or the T-90. It could either be sourced from Russia or made with significant technology transfer.

Interestingly, Russia has no comments about the 'Karrar' tank of Iran.
