A Pakistan’s Navy crew member was killed and three others missing on Friday after a Sea King helicopter crashed in the Arabian Sea.

The Pakistan Navy’s Sea King, was on routine operation when it crashed, the Navy said in a statement quoted by local media.

Among seven people onboard, three managed to escape after the crash and a rescue operation is on for those missing.

The Pakistan Navy has received seven Sea King helicopters from the United Kingdom on 24 May 2017. Contract for their purchase had been signed a year earlier.

While the helicopters have been built by AgustaWestland, a subsidiary of Leonardo, Vector Aerospace is responsible for its maintenance in Pakistan.

The Sea King helicopters have had a troubled history in countries where they have been sold.
