AM General was awarded $51.3 million contract for recapitalization of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV).
Work is expected to be completed by Aug. 30, 2019, the United States department of defense said in a statement Monday.
The Humvee or HMMWV is a family of light, four-wheel drive, military trucks and utility vehicles. Recapitalization (RECAP) is one approach to modernizing and extending service life of vehicles. One US Army program receives HMMWVs from the field units, disassembles, and replaces targeted parts and components, remanufactures others, and rebuilds the vehicle to an updated configuration. At that point the vehicle is at zero miles, zero hours, and is a “like new” condition platform ready to issue for tactical formations. These rebuilt HMMWVs become dependable and flexible assets for logistical support, training and contingency operations.
