Three Year Delay in Delivery of Indian Su-30MKI Fighters by HAL: IAF Chief

India’s state-run aircraft manufacturer, Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) is behind schedule by three years in the delivery of Su-30MKI fighters, Chief of the Air Staff said during a press conference Wednesday.

"There has been a delay in delivery schedule in contracts already executed to HAL. There is a three year delay in the delivery of Sukhoi-30, a six year delay in the Jaguar (aircraft), a five year delay in the LCA, and a two year delay in delivery of Mirage 2000 upgrade,” The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal, BS Dhanoa said.

HAL in its latest press statement after listing, in its annual report for the financial year 2017-18 stated  that it has produced 40 aircraft and helicopters covering Su-30MKI, LCA Tejas and Dornier Do-228 in fixed wing and ALH Dhruv and Cheetal helicopters in rotary wing without mentioning the breakup of the number of Su-30MKI manufactured.

In addition the Company produced 105 new engines, overhauled 220 aircraft/ helicopters and 550 engines. Also 146 new aero-structures for space programs were produced during the period, the company said

Indian Air Force (IAF) has 272 twinjet multirole air superiority fighter Sukhoi Su-30MKI in service. In May this year, HAL had offered to supply 40 more Su-30MKIs at Rs 425 crore ($57 million) each to the IAF.
