India and Russia have established a ‘working group’ within the Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation (IC-MTC) to further strengthen military cooperation between the two countries.

An agreement to set-up the working group on military cooperation was signed during the eighteenth session of the IC-MTC held in Delhi yesterday attended by the Russian Defence minister Sergei Shoigu and his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman.

"Much has been done to change structure of the intergovernmental commission. In particular it includes now a separate working group on military cooperation. Today we will sign a relevant agreement", the Russian Defence Minister was quoted as saying in a Russian MoD release.

"Despite the pressure from individual States, we have signed a large package of documents and landmark contracts for supply of S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems and construction of Project 11356 frigates," Shoigu said.

Cooperation between Russia and India in sharing armaments technologies has reached unprecedented level. "We are developing almost all areas of the military-technical cooperation," he added.

"India is ready to deepen military and technical cooperation with Russia," Nirmala Sitharaman said adding that such cooperation has a long history.
