Russia’s state-run United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) will showcase Beriev Be-200 amphibious aircraft in Aero India Show-2019 scheduled between February 20-24 in Bangalore.

“As India is now discussing the need to expand regional connectivity, we believe our Be-200 jet will fit into the new strategy very well as it can take off and land on water so it does not necessarily needs to be based at the airports,” the report quoted Sergei Ganin, Head of R&D Center of Beriev Aircraft Company, a unit of UAC as saying.

The Beriev Be-200 can be used as a cargo or a passenger airplane by the corporate sector, Business Line reported Thursday.

“In India, we are targeting corporate houses that could use the plane either for cargo transportation or for business travel,” said Ganin, and added that India’s long coastline and diverse geography will make it an attractive market for the Be-200, the report stated further.

The amphibious aircraft is designed for aerial fire-fighting, search and rescue, maritime patrol, cargo and passenger transportation. In the search and rescue role, the aircraft can be equipped with searchlights and sensors, an inflatable boat, thermal and optical surveillance systems, and medical equipment. The search and rescue variant can accommodate up to 45 people. The aircraft is also capable of being configured for anti-submarine warfare duties.
