The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has placed a request to acquire 200 Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) from the United States.
“The US-Lithuania partnership is becoming closer. Vice-minister of Lithuania’s National Defense Giedrimas Jeglinskas met with Ellen Lord, Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment of the US Department of Defense and officially submitted purchase requests of 200 JLTVs for the Lithuanian Armed Forces,” US Embassy in Vilnius said in a statement Wednesday.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces received additional missiles for the Javelin anti-tank defence systems procured by the Lithuanian MoD. The worth of the procurement is over $20 million, $5 million of which is financial support of the US.
Full-rate JLTV production is scheduled to begin in November or December 2019 ahead of fielding and initial operating capability is expected for early to mid-2020. A full-rate JLTV production decision is now scheduled for FY 2019.
Following an announcement in December 2018 that a total of 500 JLTVs would be delivered by the end of March 2019, deliveries commenced in January this year.
