Rajnath Singh has been appointed as the new Defense Minister of India serving under the new Narendra Modi-led government, dubbed as Modi 2.0.

Nirmala Sitharaman, former Minister of Defense, has been chosen to serve as the Finance Minister of India. She became the country's first full-time female minister of finance.

The new Defense Minister represents the Lucknow (located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh) Lok Sabha seat, a constituency he managed to win for the second time in a row.

Singh was appointed the Union Minister of Home Affairs in 2014. He has previously served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and as a Cabinet Minister in the Vajpayee Government. He has also served as the President of the ruling party BJP twice, 2005 to 2009 and 2013 to 2014.
