The Israeli Air Force (IAF) received two additional F-35 stealth fighters, known as the “Adir” in the country, at the Nevatim Airbase, southeast of Beersheva on July 14.

"Today, we are proud to welcome 2 new F-35 fighter jets to our existing fleet, bolstering Israel's aerial superiority and operational capabilities," Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement Sunday.

The two fighter jets bring the total number of aircraft with the Israeli forces to16.

The jets are part of an acquisition of 50 F-35s. The first jets arrived in Israel in December 2016 and by 2024, it is scheduled to receive another 34, enough to make two full squadrons.

In addition, the IAF is wavering between purchasing more F-35s or an upgraded version of Boeing F-15 fighter jet. The contract is valued at $11 billion.
