Leonardo’s TH-119 helicopter has received Instrumental Flight Rules (IFR) supplemental type certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The TH-119 single-engine helicopter allows pilots to operate the aircraft safely in low visibility and challenging weather conditions, owing to its designed by advanced avionics by Genesys Aerosystems and redundant helicopter flight systems.
The company is offering the TH-119 for US Navy’s plan to replace the fleet of aging TH-57 training helicopters.
Based on the successful AW119 Koala, the TH-119 is designed to provide advanced flight training and improved safety for next-generation of helicopter pilots. It is capable of operating under visual flight rules (VFR) and IFR conditions.
The basic empty weight of the helicopter is 1,600kg.The chopper features a pressure refuelling port, which allows its operators to perform hot refuelling during the flight.
Additional features include air-conditioning unit, dual flight controls, reinforced windshield, and dual independent hydraulic system.
The helicopter has the ability to perform touchdown auto rotations at its maximum take-off weight. It can be optionally equipped with a cargo hook and a hoist.
