Russia’s MC-21 Airliner to Debut at MAKS-2019
Irkut MC-21 aircraft

Irkut Corporation will present MC-21-300 new generation passenger aircraft for the first time at Moscow International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2019.

The aircraft participating the MAKS’ flying display is the FTV-1, which has performed maiden flight. Two more aircraft are placed in static display, the company said in a statement Monday.

The single-aisle, twinjet airliner will be equipped by PD-14 turbofan engines developed by United Engine Corporation (UEC) after the company was prevented by US sanctions from using Pratt & Whitney engines. With a capacity of 132–163 passengers in two class, up to 165–211 and up to 6,000–6,400 km (3,200–3,500 nmi) range, the standard MC-21-300 will be followed by a shortened MC-21-200

In June 2019, the aircraft completed its second certification tests by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). During the tests, EASA experts evaluated the behavior of MC-21-300 aircraft in various modes at altitudes till 12,000 m. The flights were performed with a large and low take-off weight, in the conditions of front and rear centering. The operation of the integrated aircraft control system in the normal mode has been verified. Testers rated the aircraft's behavior at minimum handling speeds of take-off and landing, including with an imitation of engine failure.
