The Pentagon has awarded Pratt and Whitney, a subsidiary of United Technologies a contract worth $763 million for the supply of 48 additional engines to power the F-35 fighter jet.
“This modification exercises options for the Lot 14 production and delivery of 48 F135-PW-100 propulsion systems for the Air Force and 10 F135-PW-600 propulsion systems for the Marine Corps. Work is expected to be completed in April 2022,” the US Department of Defense said in a statement Thursday.
In the last five months, the company won $11.14 billion for F135 engines other than the current contract- $3.24 billion for 233 engines in June, $2.2 billion and $5.7 billion for 185 and 332 engines respectively in October.
