Turkey has expressed its disappointment with European nations’ move of imposing arms embargo against Turkey for its Operation Peace Spring against Kurdish forces in Syria.
“Some Western countries have imposed arms embargo on Turkey due to its military offensive into Syria. Even in a multinational project like the A400M, restrictions have been placed,” Ismail Demir, President of Turkish Defense Industry, was quoted as saying by
Turkey and Airbus kick-started a project to retrofit A400M planes in October of this year. The A400Ms have been developed for seven European NATO nations: Belgium, Britain, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain, and Turkey.
Cahit Turhan, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister, had said that European Airbus was expected to invest around $2.5 billion in Turkey in 2020, a figure he thought, would jump to $5 billion by 2030.
“They did not officially recognize any sanctions, but Turkey has seen a slowdown in demands, the extension of deadlines, and attitude of rejection by some companies for the delivery of some equipment,” Demir added.
