DAPA Awards Hyundai Rotem $209M for Combat Engineering Vehicles, Tanks

Hyundai Rotem has won a $209.5 million (243.3 billion won) contract from South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) to supply combat engineering vehicles and tanks for the military.

The company is set to deliver an unspecified number of combat engineering vehicles and K1E1 (enhanced version of K1 tanks) to DAPA by 2020 and 2022, respectively, Yonhap reported late last week.

The combat engineering vehicles are designed to remove landmines and other obstacles near the border with North Korea.

South and North Korea are divided by a heavily armed border strewn with land mines. The two Koreas technically remain at war as the 1950-53 Korean War ended only with an armistice, not a peace treaty.
