Iranians Plan $80M Crowd-funded Bounty on Trump

Eighty million Iranians have been asked to fund a dollar each to be offered as bounty on US President Donald Trump's head for having ordered the airstrikes that killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani last Friday.

"We are 80 million Iranians. If each one of us puts aside one American dollar, we will have $80 million, and we will reward anyone who brings us Trump's head with that amount," an unidentified eulogist told Iran's state-owned Channel One TV station.

There is no indication that the proposal was endorsed by the regime, though some initial media reports claimed that was the case, reports Newsweek.

On Monday, a sea of people turned up at Tehran's streets to pay their respects to Soleimani, a revered and powerful figure who headed the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps elite Quds Force and led Iran's overseas operations.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei swiftly pledged to take "severe revenge," the biggest escalation yet in a feared proxy war between Iran and the US on Iraq, where the US and Iran have vied for influence since the US-led invasion in 2003.
