Fifteen Turkey-aligned militants have suffered burns while trying to detonate chemical weapons in Idlib province in Syria on March 2.
The militants tried to diffuse the bombs to slow down the Syrian Army in the Saraqib city from advancing towards them and later accuse them of using chemical weapons, Syria’s state-owned SANA News Agency reported citing Ministry of Defense of Russia on Wednesday.
One of the containers leaked while the alleged “provocative operation” was being carried out, subsequently poisoning the militants.
The Russian MoD reportedly has “compelling evidence” to prove that the incident occurred and plans to disclose it soon. Moscow has repeatedly accused Turkey of backing the militants and supporting their laboratories used to produce chemical weapons, the report said.
