Lockheed Martin has won a contract valued $519 million for work on five multi-mission frigates for Spain through the foreign military sales program, Pentagon said Wednesday.

The deal calls for the procurement of international Aegis fire control loop development, Solid State S-Band Radar Processing Group, tools and test equipment and spares for the frigates supporting Aegis combat system.

The Aegis uses powerful computer and radar technology to track and guide weapons to destroy enemy targets. Initially used by the United States Navy, Aegis is now used also by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Spanish Navy, Royal Norwegian Navy, Republic of Korea Navy and Royal Australian Navy.

Work for the current contract is expected to be complete by April 2030.
