Russia will soon test the naval version of the Pantsir close-in-weapon-system (CIWS) after mounting it on new Project 22800 missile corvettes.
In its naval avatar, the Pantsir CIWS will defend against drones and low flying threats to naval ships. The corvettes will also be equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles capable of hitting targets in excess of 1500km.
The systems will soon be tested on Odintsovo corvettes, following which they will be fitted on four Project 22800 (Karakurt) warships.
"Soon, the surface part of the Baltic Fleet will be reinforced with a batch of six Project 22800 missile corvettes. Four of them will carry a naval version of the Pantsir system," Russian Navy Commander Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov said Monday.
