Indonesia’s BAE Hawk 209 Jet Crashes Into Residential Area

An Indonesian Air Force BAE Hawk 209 jet fighter ploughed into a residential area in of Kampar regency, Riau, on Monday morning.

Pilot of the British-built aircraft, registered as TT-0209, managed to eject safely. The jet had departed from Rusmin Nuryadin Air Base in Pekanbaru, before crashing about 5 kilometers away in Kubang Jaya village, Siak Hulu subdistrict.

Cause of the accident and the number of casualties are being investigated.

On June 6, the military’s Mi-17 helicopter during a training exercise on the country’s Java island killing five onboard. Four other crew members were injured in the accident.
