Air Leak in International Space Station, Astronauts Safe

The International Space Station recorded a small air leak in the American segment, but it does not threaten the safety of the crew.

"The ISS crew is isolated for three days in the Russian Zvezda module while searching for a leak in order to organize pressure control in the modules of the American segment," Roscosmos press service  told  Russian media.

To search for the source, it is planned to isolate the modules of the American segment of the station, by closing the hatches between them in the near future.

“During their stay on the Russian segment, the crew is planning to carry out regular work,” the press service said.

The station will be re-pressurized as planned using nitrogen tanks delivered by cargo ships.

At the moment, Russian cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Wagner, as well as American astronaut Christopher Cassidy, are on the ISS.

According to the Chief Operating Control Group of the Russian segment of the International Space Station, on Friday the station crewmembers will move to the Zvezda module to organize air pressure control in the American segment modules. This is a routine procedure mentioned in the onboard documentation and is a joint decision of the Russian and US segments control groups. During the three-day stay in the Russian segment, the crew will perform routine work. There is no danger for the crew and the station.
