Brazilian Air Force (FAB) pilot Major Aviator Cristiano de Oliveira Peres for carried out the first flight of the made-for-Brazil F-39 Gripen E fighter jet in Linköping, Sweden yesterday.
The pilot flew the jet over the Baltic Sea for approximately 50 minutes. The activity is part of the verification of the flight and piloting qualities of the aircraft, an FAB announcement said.
The FAB explains that the preparation for the flight had been going on since January with the pilot undergone a series of training sessions that qualified him for piloting. Among them was the study of the technical documentation of the F-39 Gripen and many hours of training in simulators.
Major Cristiano said, "the Gripen E FAB 4100 is still a prototype and took a long time to prepare for that flight."
The joint activities started in 2014 with the signing of the contract for the development and production of 36 Gripen E / F aircraft for the Brazilian Air Force, including embedded systems, support and equipment.
The platforms are developed and produced with the participation of Brazilian technicians and engineers. This integration is part of the technology transfer and aims to provide the necessary knowledge for the continuity of activities in Brazil.
