The Indian police's special task force recently arrested a civilian employee of the Military engineering services (MES) for passing classified data to Pakistani Military intelligence unit over the last two and a half years.
The individual, was allegedly in touch with at least three Pakistani Intelligence Operative (PIO)-run Facebook accounts since 2018. He was now found to have deleted all his chats with PIOs.
He is said to have received money on multiple occasions in return for sharing Order of Battle (ORBAT) of a Jaipur based Army Brigade, details of some senior officers in Jaipur, location of Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA) Jaipur, details of MES complaint records, COVID-19 state of the Jaipur Cantonment and posting order of civilian MES employees, Zee News reported September 17.
In June, two civil defence employees working at Army Ammunition Depot in Rajasthan state's Sri Ganganagar district were arrested for espionage charges. "The Military Intelligence found that one of the accused was sharing confidential military information related to ORBAT, ammunition (photos, state, quantity, type, arrival, departure), units coming for firing practice, military exercise to MFFR, personality traits of senior army officers in lieu of money," a police officer was quoted as saying by the Indian media.
The individual arrested recently reportedly gathered movement-related information from by striking conversation with service personnel coming to Jaipur MES office for various purposes. He was found have MES officers phone numbers, photos of several letters/ notices in his mobile device, including some with security classification and some giving out the details of all unit/sub-units in Jaipur Cantonment.
