Israeli Navy Tests New Sea-to-Sea Missile System
The Israeli Navy on Friday tested a new sea-to-sea missile system that would arm its newest Sa’ar-5 and Sa’ar-6 corvettes.
“The Israeli Navy & Israel Ministry of Defense have been testing the waters... with our brand new Israeli-made sea-to-sea missile system,” Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tweeted September 25.
During the tests, the missile struck and sank a decommissioned target vessel meant to simulate an enemy vessel. It has been developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
The 128-meter corvettes that would carry these missiles are built by Huntington Ingalls. The ships will be equipped with sonar, torpedoes, missile launchers, electronic warfare capabilities and decoys, a gun mount, a helipad and a helicopter hangar.
