UK Royal Air Force Receives Texan T1 Trainers

The U.K. Royal Air Force has received four new Beechcraft T-6C Texan II trainer aircraft.

“Four Texan T1 basic training aircraft have arrived at their new home at RAF Valley (on the Welsh island of Anglesey), an expansion of the basic training fleet to provide more fighter pilots to the front line,” the service tweeted on Tuesday.

The new aircraft add to the 10 already operated under the U.K. Military Flight Training System (UKMFTS) programme.

The jets will be used by Affinity Flying Services Limited to deliver the Fixed-Wing portion of the UKMFTS programme for RAF and Royal Navy (RN) pilots. Affinity is a 50/50 joint venture of Elbit Systems UK and Kellogg Brown and Root Limited. The aircraft are delivered under a $721 million award to provide fixed-wing pilot training to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and its Ascent Flight Training partner.

Grob 120TP Prefect piston-engined platforms, Texan II and BAE Systems Hawk T2 form the country’s three-node training system.
