Russia is developing a new complex consisting of an unmanned helicopter and a long-range surveillance radar to destroy enemy drones.

“Since November, the development of an unmanned helicopter for a long-range radar patrol has been underway, which will track small and low-speed enemy drones at low and extremely low altitudes and ensure the guidance of anti-aircraft missile systems of military air defense at them,” a defense industry source was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti today.

The project was launched based on Russia’s analysis of performance of military equipment in recent conflicts, including the one in Nagorno-Karabakh. Drones, in combination with electronic warfare equipment, have been used extensively in Armenia-Azerbaijan and Libyan conflicts. Being armed with deadly missiles, the drones effectively destroy targets, and also aid in reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

“The work was not started from scratch, the development uses the existing groundwork. The new complex will be created in the shortest possible time,” the source added.
