Pakistan Army conducted test flight of an indigenously developed Guided Multi Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) capable of delivering a conventional Warhead up to a range of 140 km.
The Weapon System, called ‘Fateh-1’ will give Pak Army capability of precision target engagement, a Twitter post from the Director General Inter Service Public Relations (DG-ISPR) said today.
An accompanying video showed what looked like a single rocket fired from a single barrel.
The Pakistan Army currently has the 122mm Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) which uses an indigenously made YARMUK rocket having maximum range of 40km. In addition, it inducted the locally-made A-100 MLRS in January 2019.
This will be the first effort by the Pakistan at developing a GMLRS which is the current global standard of multiple-launch artillery.
No further information was available from the DG-ISPR regarding the organization which developed the Fatel-1 GMLRS or its guidance system.
