U.S. Army’s Abrams Tanks to be fitted with Israeli WindGuard Radar Systems
WindGuard (ELM-2133) radar system

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has completed delivery of hundreds of WindGuard radar systems to the U.S. Army for integration onto their Abrams tanks.

The WindGuard (ELM-2133) radar systems were supplied to DRS Land Systems.

The radars are installed on Israel Defense Force (IDF)’s Merkava battle tanks and Namer armored personnel carriers to protect the crews. Part of the Trophy Active Protection System, the WindGuard phased array Radar continuously scans the volume around the platform in search of anti-tank threats, including rockets, guided missiles and anti-tank shells. Once a threat is detected, it tracks it and guides the countermeasure system to intercept and neutralize it before the platform is hit.
