SELEX Galileo to display its key capabilities at LAAD 2009

SELEX Galileo, of Finmeccanica, will showcase its key capabilities at the Latin America Aerospace and Defence Exposition- LAAD 2009. Over the past decades the Company has established long term industrial agreements in the Latin American region covering a wide range of its products and is well placed as a strong and reliable defence industry partner. SELEX Galileo recently signed an important Heads of Agreement with SAAB Aerosystems and Microwave Systems which outlines the way forward in terms of future working arrangements which will see a co-operative development of an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar, based on the Vixen radar, for the Gripen Next Generation (NG) programme. The agreement represents the beginning of a long term strategic relationship between the two companies and is initially aimed at Brazil’s Fighter programme. SELEX Galileo draws great pride from SAAB’s recognition of the company’s world class ASEA technology and innovation. Currently the largest contract SELEX Galileo has in Brazil is for the the Grifo- F radar: close to 50 radars have been installed on the Brazilian Air Force F-5 aircraft with a value in the region of 60 million Euro. The Grifo F radar belongs to the Grifo Fire Control radar family. With over 450 units sold worldwide and 100,000 flight hours, Grifo offers an advanced performance ability to both new and upgradeable aircraft. Another important programme for SELEX Galileo is the SCP-01 (Scipio) Radar. The company designed and developed the multimode radar for the specific requirement of the Brazilian Air Force AM-X combat aircraft. Since the beginning the programme has been a cooperation with local industry with a significant Know-how transfer to build a strong technical relationship in the field of avionic radar; in addition the integration with the avionics system was successfully completed together with Embraer before starting the production of 60 units. The S. Jose dos Campos based Mectron has now the responsibility of some LRU and will be able to contribute in the radar support. The Precision Approach Radar (PAR) selected for Brazil, which is receiving a growing interest from many customers. SELEX Galileo has a family of PAR Radars with three main products: PAR 2080C, PAR 2090CF, for fixed installation and the PAR 2090CM mobile version, for rapid deployment in the area of operation. Over 50 PAR radars have been acquired by international end users which includes France .
