Russian Navy is conducting a special exercise to test submarine systems and weapons in the deep-water regions of the Barents and Norwegian Seas.
"The event is attended by the crews of several submarines, including the fourth generation. The exercise is taking place as planned. It will continue for several days," press service of the Northern fleet said on Friday.
Deep-sea tests are being carried out at depths of over 500 meters.
The Russian Navy has a number of fourth-generation nuclear submarines: Borei and Borei-A class armed with Bulava ICBMs, and Project 885M Yasen-M submarines equipped with Onyx and Kalibr cruise missiles. The later will likely be armed with Tsirkon (Zircon) hypersonic missiles.
