The first batch of six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft departed the United States on 14 July 2021 enroute to Nigeria.

The 6 aircraft will be leapfrogged through 5 countries including Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Spain and Algeria before arriving at their final destination in Nigeria towards the end of July 2021.

An official induction ceremony of the aircraft into the inventory of the Nigerian Air Force will be held in August 2021, the media wing of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced today.

Separately, NAF Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao announced that 60 NAF personnel, comprising pilots, engineers, technicians, and other specialists, have completed their training on the aircraft in the U.S. and will be ready for the aircraft when they arrive.

Sierra Nevada Corporation and Embraer Defense & Security were awarded a contract to deliver 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft to the NAF in 2020.
