Indonesia orders Six Additional T-50i Combat-Trainer Aircraft from Korea Aerospace

Korea Aerospace Industries announced Tuesday that it had signed an export contract for six units of the T-50i, an introductory tactical trainer, with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (I-MoD).

The T-50i is a trainer aircraft built to the requirements of the Indonesian Air Force based on the T-50. It can perform both training and light attack missions. The contract is 274.488 billion won (US$239 million).

KAI sold 16 T-50i units to Indonesia in May 2011 worth $400 million. With the latest order, the number of T-50i aircraft in service with Indonesia will rise to 22.

"The Ministry of Defense continues this collaboration with a plan to add 6 units of T-50i Fighter Aircraft with KAI," an I-MOD statement released to local media said.

The I-MoD emphasized that the procurement process for six T-50i units had gone through applicable procedures and rules involving relevant ministries/agencies.
