Georgia to Order Javelin Missiles for $30M

Georgia could soon place an order worth $30 million with Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture for Javelin Missiles.

On Tuesday, the U.S. State Department approved a Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Georgia of Javelin Missiles and related equipment.

The country had requested to buy 82 Javelin FGM-148 Missiles; and 46 Javelin Command Launch Units (CLU). Also included are Enhanced Producibility Basic Skills Trainers; Missile Simulation Rounds; Security Assistance Management Directorate Technical Assistance; Tactical Aviation and Ground Munitions Project Office Technical Assistance; other associated equipment and services; and other related elements of logistical and program support, Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement.

The prime contractors will be Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture ofp Orlando, Florida, and Tucson, Arizona. However, these articles are being provided from U.S. Army stock.

Javelin is an anti-tank guided munition that can be carried and launched by a single person. Javelin is a medium-range, "fire-and-forget" missile for use against a wide array of targets including armored vehicles, bunkers and caves. The system’s Command Launch Unit, or sight, performs surveillance, allowing a gunner to see targets. The weapon can be deployed from multiple platforms and used during the day, at night and in any kind of weather. The program has also demonstrated that Javelin can be fired from a remote launcher mounted on an unmanned ground vehicle.
