The Pakistan military on Thursday conducted a test launch of Ghaznavi surface-to-surface ballistic missile, capable of delivering multiple types of warheads up to a range of 290km.

“Pakistan today conducted a training launch of surface to surface ballistic missile Ghaznavi,” Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement August 12.

In February this year, the ASFC had conducted a ‘training launch’ of Ghaznavi as part of its annual field training exercise. The missile is equipped with a proper terminal guidance system.

Thursday’s launch was aimed at ensuring operational readiness of Army Strategic Forces Command, besides re-validating technical parameters of the weapon system, the military’s media wing added.

It was the fifth missile test conducted by Islamabad since the start of the year, with the launches of Shaheen-3, Ghaznavi, Babur cruise missile, and the Fatah-1 conducted earlier.
