U.S. Marine Corps Awards Remote Weapons Systems Contract to Kongsberg
Kongsberg Remote Weapon Station

The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) has awarded a contract to Kongsberg Protech Systems USA to deliver remote weapon systems (RWS) as part of the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) program.

The RWS will provide Counter-Unmanned Air System (C-UAS) capability to the USMC.

The indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract has a potential value of $94 million and includes a series of Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) systems and full-rate production units.

This production contract award follows a Sept. 2020 contract award from the USMC to KONGSBERG for test articles and activities, which includes Design Verification Testing (DVT).

The PROTECTOR family covers a wide variety from the small and light systems to medium caliber Remote Turrets (RT series). Among a wide range of capabilities, the PROTECTOR family also enables dual-user operations, counter UAS (Unmanned Aerial System), multi-sensor fusion, manned-unmanned teaming solutions, a qualified Safe operation via radio for use on UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicles) as well as other new functions required by the expanding user community.
