Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company has won a contract valued $52 million to support Israeli CH-53K helicopters.
“This modification adds scope to procure long lead items in support of full rate production, Lot 7, CH-53K aircraft for the government of Israel,” a U.S. DoD release today said.
The U.S. State Department approved the sale of 18 CH-53K King Stallion helicopters for $3.4 billion. In February 2021, the Israel MoD announced that it chose CH-53K as its next heavy-lift helicopter, over Boeing’s CH-47 Chinook. The new chopper will replace the country’s five decades-old CH-53D Sea Stallion Yasur helicopter.
Earlier this year, it signed a $3 billion deal for 12 CH-53Ks and two KC-46 tankers.
