A U.S. Marine MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft crashed during a training mission in Arctic Norway with 4 crew members confirmed dead.

The aircraft was on a training mission in connection with the NATO exercise Cold Response, Norwegian publication, VG.No reported quoting local police officials.

"The police have now arrived at the Havarist crash site at about 01:30. Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that all four people on board the plane have died. As far as the police are aware, all four are of American nationality," said police operations manager Ivar Bo Nilsson in a press release saturday morning.

The Armed Forces and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Northern Norway said the Osprey was reported missing after it failed to arrive at Norwegian Air Force Base Bodø on Friday evening.

The Osprey’s last known whereabouts were over the Saltfjellet mountains– a vast range about 75km to the Norwegian base.

Norwegian search aircraft, including a rescue helicopter from the airbase and a P-3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft, found a suspected crash site but could not reach the location by air.

A crew of four were on board the aircraft, which was on a training mission in connection with the NATO exercise Cold Response.

"The police have now arrived at the havarist at about 01:30. Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that all four people on board the plane have died. As far as the police are aware, all four are of American nationality," said operations manager Ivar Bo Nilsson in a press release saturday morning.
