The Kremlin for the first time acknowledged that a “minority of Russians,” representing less than 25% of the population, are opposing Moscow's war on Ukraine.
"There are few of them (who oppose the war). The vast majority of citizens, and this is evidenced by statistics and polls, over 75% support the operation as well as President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin,” Dmitry Peskov, press secretary for the Russian president, said.
“This (Russian invasion of Ukraine) is an irrefutable act,” he added.
"You see that there is a very active explanation of the goals and objectives of this operation, its reasons. We hope that those who disagree will understand what is happening. In addition, it is very important that those who disagree begin to navigate in those streams of lies that come from the West about what is happening and understood that not everything is true, what is given in the news," the presidential spokesman said.
According to Peskov, less than 25% of Russians disagree with the special operation. When asked if the Kremlin heard these people, Pekov said: "They hear the opinion, but still a minority is a minority.”
One of Russia’s biggest rappers is performing charity concerts in Istanbul and London in a show of Russians’ opposition to their country’s war in Ukraine, the Moscow Times reported. Oxxxymiron is one of the only Russian artists who has vocally opposed the war and initially took a step back from the stage.
“I cannot entertain you when Russian missiles are falling on Ukraine,” Oxxxymiron, 37, said in an Instagram post announcing he was canceling his sold-out concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg, calling the invasion a “catastrophe and a crime.”
Some 400 Russians, many of whom fled to Turkey following the invasion, crowded into the basement club to watch the rapper perform a high-energy mix of old and new songs on a spartan stage with just the words “Russians against war” displayed behind him.
“There are tens of millions of Russians who categorically disagree with this war and I think this should be said as loudly as possible,” Oxxxymiron said in the announcement.
