Turkish defense firm Armelsan is developing a Diver Detection SONAR to protect flagship to-be TCG Anadolu against enemy divers.
Turkish news agency, Anadolu Agency (not to be confused with TCG Anadolu) quoted Armelsan General Manager, Can Emre Bakım as saying that the system called "Aras 2023 Diver Detection Sonar," would be able to detect small objects such as divers working below the ship.
Armelsan announced the development of "Nusrat-1915," an active SONAR with the ability to detect and classify moored and ground mines. It is planned to be available for use in the third quarter of 2022.
Bakım said that the company has been working for a decade to end the Turkish Navy's foreign dependency in the field of underwater acoustic systems especially SONAR.
