The start of serial production of the Checkmate light fighter jet is scheduled for 2027, according to the Russian MoD's TV Channel, TVZvezda.ru.
It said such a statement at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin was made by the head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov. “We plan to start mass production in 2027,” Chemezov reportedly told Putin.
The head of Rostec added that the design documentation for the fighter is currently being developed, and a mock-up has already been created.
“We took the basis of the onboard equipment, the engine, from the fifth-generation Su-57 aircraft, but slightly modified it,” he explained.
It was earlier reported that the Checkmate, also called Su-75, has a launch international customer. A mock-up of the aircraft was released internationally at the Dubai Air Show 2021 fueling speculation that the U.A.E. would be a customer.
Meanwhile, a press release from Rostec said:
Among the bright projects in the field of aircraft construction, Sergey Chemezov noted several premieres of last year at once - a prototype of the Checkmate light tactical aircraft, the Okhotnik UAV with a flat jet nozzle, and the Mi-171A3 offshore helicopter for servicing fuel and energy facilities.
