Turkey’s FNSS wants to build unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) that are as potent as the locally-produced Bayraktar TB2 UAV.
The company has signed a statement of intent with Turkey’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) for the mass production of heavy-class unmanned land vehicles.
FNSS General Manager Nail Kurt told Anadolu Agency (AA) the duties and subsystems of five vehicles were defined within the scope of the contract. He said the proposals will be submitted to the presidency once they are finalized.
Kurt acknowledged that UGVs previously developed by FNSS had no autonomous features, since “considering the time, it was not possible to equip autonomous features at the time.”
A certain level of autonomous features and weapon integration is required in line with the requests of the SSB and the Land Forces Command, Kurt explained.
Another study involving different configurations has been carried out. FNSS will also make changes to improve the UGV’s performance in the future based on the military’s experience in the field and their feedback.
