Russian tank manufacturer, Uralvagonzavod will display the BMPT-72 armored vehicle made from decommissioned T-72 tanks of which there is a global inventory of over 5000 in 50 countries, at the Army-2022 event near Moscow next week.
The BMPT-72 Terminator 2 is based on the idea of converting decommissioned T-72 tanks into a new combat vehicle with high technical characteristics.
Just as its basic model, Terminator-2 is a multipurpose tank and infantry fire support vehicle that can operate in any combat mode, complicated geographic area, light conditions and against any enemy. Still, it has some new features: upgraded fire-control system and turret weapon station protection. The breakthrough vehicle is built on the platform of the most widely manufactured and used T-72 tank.
Given that, the key advantage that BMPT-72 gives to all the counties that operate T-72 tanks is that they can promptly and at minimum cost upgrade their armies to ultra-modern level, enhance its capacity, mobility, protection and armament without purchasing new high-cost machines.
Along with the T-72-based armored vehicle, Uralvagonzavod is displaying the T-90MS tank, a heavily upgraded version of the T-90 which includes new engines, suspension, armor plates and weapons.
T-90MS is the newest vehicle in the T-90 family and another example of the great modernization potential of Tagil armored vehicles. The modernization was so multi-level that the T-90MS can rightfully be considered a new combat vehicle. The turret was completely replaced on the tank, the power and transmission units and chassis were modernized, the level of armor resistance was increased. The highly automated weapon station is equipped with a gunner's multispectral sight and a commander's panoramic sight. This enables the commander not only to obtain more information about the situation, but also to control the armament of the combat vehicle. It is equally suitable for installation both on newly built combat vehicles and for upgrading equipment from previous years.
The company will also display T-14 tanks. T-14 on the Armata platform is a fundamentally new development of the Ural Design Bureau of Transport Engineering. The vehicle uses unprecedented design solutions, in particular, the T-14 turret is uninhabited, and the crew is placed in an armored capsule, separated from the ammunition load. The tank is equipped with active and dynamic protection, equipped with a remotely controlled weapon station with a powerful cannon and an automatic reloading system. Along the perimeter of the turret and hull, optoelectronic devices for monitoring, aiming and detecting threats are installed.
