U.S. and its European allies, in an attempt to upgrade their arsenals, have supplied Ukraine with their obsolete weapons, Denis Pushilin, acting head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), said.
“A lot of (Ukrainian military) weapons that we get in the form of trophies are outdated. We pass it on for study, as we need to understand what we are dealing with. Mostly these weapons are from the 70s and 80s,” Pushilin was quoted as saying by Russian defense ministry-owned Zvezda TV. “The West is transferring these weapons to Ukraine so generously to update its own arsenal.”
While it is true that Ukraine has received some old Western equipment like MiG-29 fighters or T-72 tanks, it could be because the Ukrainians are accustomed to operating them. Kyiv is also getting new and advanced weapons such as loitering munitions, HIMARS launchers, NASAMS air defense systems, etc.
