Russian Troops Receive Il-76MD-90A Transport Plane with Improved Engine and Range

Aviastar-SP, a subsidiary of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) handed over the next serial heavy military transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A, built in the interests of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“Today the Russian army received another serial Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft. This machine is a deep development of the legendary Soviet Il-76. She received a new engine, an improved wing, a glass cockpit, and has an increased flight range and carrying capacity. In fact, this is a new aircraft that meets all modern requirements, which will become the basis of Russian transport aviation. We are systematically increasing the production of these machines for the Russian military department, the next transport aircraft is in a high degree of readiness,” said Sergey Chemezov, director of the Rostec State Corporation.

To fulfill the tasks of increasing production volumes, the Ulyanovsk aircraft plant continues to recruit key production workers and conducts its own training in the most demanded professions. Currently, more than 1,000 people have already been accepted, of which 80% are students in working specialties. In 2023, the plant plans to add more than 1,100 production workers.

“The supply of new transport aircraft is our contribution to meeting the needs of the military aviation and strengthening the country's defense capability. Today, another Il-76MD-90A is in the assembly line. The plant is already creating a production reserve for next year. There are several aircraft in the workshops in varying degrees of readiness, which are planned to be commissioned in 2023,” said Yury Slyusar, General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation. 

Il-76MD-90A was created from domestic components. The new aircraft has improved basic characteristics compared to previous versions. In particular, the flight range and the transported load have been increased, as well as the accuracy of aircraft navigation and landing, and the quality of radio communications have been improved.
