A Russian MiG-31 fighter jet crashed in Primorsky Krai, the the Eastern Military District (EMD) reported on Friday.
"On December 2, in the Primorsky Territory, during a planned training flight, a MiG-31 aircraft crashed. The crew ejected. The flight was carried out without ammunition," an EMD spokesperson was quoted as saying in the local media.
"The plane crashed in a deserted place, there is no destruction on the ground. According to preliminary information, a technical malfunction could have caused the accident," the spokesperson said.
According to her, Mi-8 helicopters of the search and rescue service were sent to the scene.
The MiG-31 is Russia's long range supersonic bomber capable of firing missiles from a stand-off distance. A later modification of the aircraft has enabled it to carry the Kinzal hypersonic misile.
Some 50 MiG-31 aircraft have been upgraded in recent years to carry the latest genation of missiles, have the latest in communications and radar.
