France and Italy submitted their final bids to Greece, which is eying corvettes worth nearly €1.5 billion for the Hellenic Navy.
The project involves the construction of three ships with the option of adding a fourth. While France’s Naval Group has offered Greece its Gowind 2500 corvette, Italian firm Fincantieri is poised to sell the Doha-class.
The first corvette will be built in France or Italy, and will be handed over to the Hellenic Navy in 2025. The rests will be built in Greece.
Naval Group said the construction of the first Gowind corvette in France will ensure operation by Greece in the shortest timeframe with a flag transfer only 3 years after the coming into force of the contract. The following units will be built in Greece by Hellenic Shipyards with the first corvette built in Greece delivered only one year after the first unit and then a pace of one Gowind every 12 months.
